Gary Neville and Jamie Carragherrepeatedly locked horns in a series of furious debate over Liverpool and England during a recent podcast.

The two former England internationals were part of a Stick to Football panel including Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Jill Scott, who debated the latest ongoings in football.

Among the topics covered were Liverpool's defeat by Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final,Trent Alexander-Arnold's potential move to Real Madrid and Phil Foden's struggles for England.

It's clear that the former national team-mates did not see eye-to-eye on any of the matters as they repeatedly butted heads in front of their trio of co-hosts.

The pair initially clashed over Neville's commentary for the cup final clash between Carragher's beloved Liverpool and Newcastle - which the Magpies won 2-1.

The former Reds defender took issue with Neville after the ex-United man said: 'It was a great day for Newcastle'.

Former Man United defender Neville (left) was enraged with his co-host over one matter

Carragher initially took issue with Neville's commentary for Newcastle's Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool earlier this month

Carragher retorted: 'Yeah, I could tell on commentary! Honestly, [it was a] good job I was on the side of the pitch because I would have f***ing punched you!'.

The conversation swiftly moved on, after Carragher mockingly provided his best impression of Neville's Wembley commentary, but it didn't take long for the duo to clash again.

This time, it was regarding Alexander-Arnold nearing a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid on a free deal - where Neville questioned how Liverpool chiefs his contract situation reach this stage.

In response, former Man United star Neville has warned the Reds that, if all three of their stars leave for free, they will struggle to replace the 」250m worth of talent.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, he said: 'Liverpool are the only club that are allowed to run a player's contract down to zero but are still doing okay. But he's [Jamie Carragher] explained it, so we're alright.

'Three of the best players in the world have got contracts running down, but Liverpool have done a great job of managing that - I'm sorry, I can't accept that'.

Carragher immediately responded and attempted to explain the change in hierarchy at Liverpool which has lead to the unfortunate situation.

As he did, he said: 'The last summer of Jurgen Klopp, do you know who the sporting director was?' Neville responded: 'I don't have a clue'.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is edging closer to a summer move to Real Madrid on a free transfer

Neville and Carragher once again clashed as they debated Liverpool's handling of the situation

Neville questioned how Liverpool chiefs allowed Alexander-Arnold's deal to run down

Carragher said: 'So, when you're doing all this [makes frantic arm movements] for the cameras... you haven't actually got a clue. It was Jurgen Klopp's mate'.

The former defender repeatedly told Neville that 'didn't have a clue', while Scott, Keane and Wright watched on.

Wright did interject to say: 'Don't take it there, c'mon'.

In a further discussion about Alexander-Arnold's unceremonious exit, Neville said: Liverpool fans, maybe, are a little bit quicker on him than they would be on someone like Carra or Steven Gerrard'.

With a bemused look on his face, Carragher bit back: 'Why? You think that the crowd were quicker on Trent than they were on me?! You are joking...'

Neville replied: 'Carra! My point is, there's a greater love towards you, Stevie, Robbie Fowler. Are you denying this?'

'What are you talking about?' Carragher queried. Ian Wright then mentioned Michael Owen, who similarly moved from Liverpool to Madrid.

Neville said: 'Michael's in the same sort of sphere as Trent that, basically, those two players don't get the same level of love from Liverpool fans'.

The punditry duo, once again, locked horns when discussing England's recent matches

They debated where Phil Foden's best position within Thomas Tuchel's England side would be

Carragher barked back: 'Where are you getting this from? He's got a big mural outside of Anfield!' Neville replied: 'Oh, you've all got murals!'

Ending the discussion over Liverpool's issues, Carragher said: 'You don't live in Liverpool, you don't know Liverpool!'

Moving beyond the Reds, the panel then discussed Thomas Tuchel's opening two games as England boss and the struggles that Phil Foden endured in the matches.

Tensions were clearly reaching a boiling point as they discussed the Man City starlet, as Neville said: 'Where do you play him? Only English people ask that. Only English people ask that about these players.'

He suggested that Foden's situation with England is similar to that of Paul Scholes, who was regularly moved out of position to accommodate for Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

Neville was asked to figure out a system for England's Golden Generation, to which he picked 5-3-2 and then said: 'He's [Carragher] gone f****** quiet, hasn't he? Because he knows I'm right.'

Carragher then replied: 'You just said 4-3-3 before that!'

An enraged Neville shouted: 'For Foden you absolute tool!'

Wright was sent into hysterics as the two debated the matter, while Scott and Keane grinned cheekily from the other side of the table.
